Patton Technology Initiative (PTI) was formed in the summer of 2004 by a group of parents and teachers committed to improving the learning technology environment Patton Elementary School. PTI has worked in concert with the Patton PTA, School Administration and teaching staff to provide a technology instructor to support the teachers with on-campus technical assistance and with professional development aimed at building their skills in using technology to support and improve instruction. PTI helps students with the development of their computer skills. Moreover, we believe that this will result in improved student performance as measured by the newly established Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for Technology for Elementary Schools.

For the upcoming calendar year 2008-9, a part time technology instructor will be on campus. However, additional funds must be secured on a regular basis to keep the position for each school year. PTI needs help to promote awareness and raise funds in support of this objective. Volunteer opportunities (which are all time flexible) include:

  • Art / Technical support: videotaping each of the five grade level performances; making flyers; posters; distribution of flyers to teacher's mailboxes; distribution of products designing the DVD cover.
  • Tech Friday: Every Friday, a PTI representative comes to the school and solves minor technical issues. This troubleshooting resolves teacherıs computer issues faster and alleviates the need to involve the districtıs I.T. staff. Monthly meetings are held are held in the evening lasting 1-2 hours.
